The most significant judgment you face each day begins with looking in the mirror. Its reflection doesn’t lie, and shattering the mirror won’t change who you are.
We often spend countless hours tending to our outward appearance, yet overlook the importance of developing our inner character. While everyone holds a mental picture of who they think they are, this perception often includes idealized notions.
There’s a part of us that wants to believe we’re smarter, more attractive, more generous, and morally superior to others. However, these self-beliefs can also reveal vulnerabilities and blind spots in different areas.
When we lose clarity about our self-identity, we invite confusion and with it, problems. Without truly understanding who we are, we struggle to know where we belong. Moreover, surrounding ourselves with people who reinforce our assumptions about our self-identity can stunt our growth.
Stepping beyond our comfort zone allows us to dismantle the assumptions we’ve made about ourselves and uncover areas for improvement. Isn’t it time we discarded the labels of who we think we should be and embraced a clearer understanding of who we truly are?
